Softball Game Preview: Mendon Hornets vs. Schoolcraft Eagles

The Mendon Hornets will head out to take on the Schoolcraft Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mendon has nine straight victories, Schoolcraft has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mendon's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Burr Oak. The three-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Rowan Allen, who gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Burr Oak off the board. Allen has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ally Butler was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season. Elise Allen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Schoolcraft lost 14-2 to Kalamazoo Christian on Wednesday.

Mendon's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Schoolcraft, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.

Mendon took their victory against Schoolcraft in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
