Football Recap: Michael Cruz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shadow Ridge over Williams Field

Shadow Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 22-16 heartbreaker at the hands of the Williams Field Black Hawks.

Shadow Ridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Cruz, who rushed for 120 yards on only 15 carries, and also picked up 78 receiving yards. Christian Normandin was another key passer, throwing for 111 yards and one TD while completing 80% of his passes.

Even if they lost, Shadow Ridge's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Aiden Tatum and Terran Gutierrez, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Q Skillings was nothing short of spectacular for Williams Field: he rushed for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Shadow Ridge now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Williams Field, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Shadow Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 49-24 loss against Higley on the 24th. As for Williams Field, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-35 win against Saguaro on the 24th.
