Winter Springs and Lake Brantley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bears will take on the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Winter Springs is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Winter Springs' hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Timber Creek's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Bears were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Wolves. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Alex Dameron was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Swann, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Winter Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timber Creek only posted a batting average of .222.
Lake Brantley not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th. They never let Deltona get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Elijah Guzman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Justus Mike, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Justin Otis also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Winter Springs pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Lake Brantley, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-8-1 record.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Winter Springs has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake Brantley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Winter Springs took their win against Lake Brantley in their previous matchup on Tuesday by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
