Basketball Game Preview: Soldotna Stars vs. Eagle River Wolves

The Soldotna Stars and the Eagle River Wolves will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Soldotna and three for Eagle River.

Soldotna's tournament run continued when they took on Kenai Central on Friday. Soldotna took a 45-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kenai Central. The matchup marked the Stars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Eagle River scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 86-77 to Cook Inlet Academy. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Eagles are ranked 14th).

Eagle River's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Soldotna, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Soldotna came out on top in a nail-biter against Eagle River in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, sneaking past 64-61. Does Soldotna have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eagle River turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
