Basketball Recap: Merit Preparatory Academy Knights vs. American Prep WV Eagles
The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights were the 31-22 winner over the American Prep WV Eagles when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Merit Preparatory Academy took a 28-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Merit Preparatory Academy's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Despite the loss, Merit Preparatory Academy still got an impressive performance from Lizbeth Diaz, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Moody, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Leading American Prep WV to victory were Jimena Cortes and Nicole Tran. Cortes scored seven points along with seven rebounds, while Tran scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Merit Preparatory Academy dropped their record down to 7-15 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for American Prep WV, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merit Preparatory Academy and the Lions will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Intermountain Christian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for American Prep WV, they will head out on the road to square off against the Marshals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
