Basketball Game Preview: Westbrook Knights vs. Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils

Westbrook is 0-10 against Coginchaug Regional since December of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Westbrook Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Monday, Westbrook escaped with a win against Portland by the margin of a single free throw, 36-35.

Meanwhile, Coginchaug Regional waltzed into their match on Friday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. They put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 64-41 win. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

Westbrook better focus on containing Maddy Benbow and Sophie Farr as the pair were huge in Coginchaug Regional's win. Benbow went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc to rack up 29 points and six steals, while Farr went 8 of 19 on her way to 17 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Farr's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Smolley, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards.

Coginchaug Regional smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Coginchaug Regional pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. As for Westbrook, their record is now 3-8.

Westbrook ended up a good deal behind Coginchaug Regional when the teams last played back in January, losing 56-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Farr, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 11 steals. Now that Westbrook knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
