Preview: Apollo Hawks vs. Campo Verde Coyotes

Apollo is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Campo Verde is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Apollo Hawks will take on the Campo Verde Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Apollo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 476 points over their last ten matches.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Apollo had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They breezed by Casa Grande at home to the tune of 56-21. Apollo might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won ten matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Adam Mohammed was his usual excellent self, rushing for 192 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Mohammed is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last eight games he's played.

Meanwhile, Campo Verde gave up the first points last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 28-21 win over Cactus.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Campo Verde to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Haygood, who picked up 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Apollo's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Campo Verde, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Apollo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Campo Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging 191.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Apollo ended up a good deal behind Campo Verde when the teams last played back in September of 2022, losing 42-27. Thankfully for Apollo, Mason Shea (who rushed for 161 yards on only ten carries, and also threw for 63 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
