Softball Game Preview: Machias Bulldogs vs. Jonesport-Beals Royals

The Machias Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Jonesport-Beals Royals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Machias is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Friday, Machias made easy work of Bangor Christian and carried off a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Jonesport-Beals' good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Narraguagus by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Royals have suffered since April 29, 2024.

Aspen Alley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jonesport-Beals saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Merchant, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base. Macie Faulkingham was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

Machias pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for Jonesport-Beals, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Everything went Machias' way against Jonesport-Beals in their previous meeting back in April, as Machias made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
