Football Game Preview: Austin Panthers vs. San Elizario Eagles

The Austin Panthers will head out to square off against the San Elizario Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Elizario took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Austin, who comes in off a win.

Austin was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bowie on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Bears 42-7. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Austin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Roberto Flores and Andruw Andujo. Flores also rushed for 107 rushing yards, which is notable because Austin is undefeated when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise. Andujo got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, San Elizario was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 35-14 to Mountain View.

Although San Elizario took the loss, they still got scores from Freddy Garcia and Hector Holguin.

San Elizario's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Austin, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Austin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 272.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like San Elizario struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 215 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Austin took their victory against San Elizario when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 46-20 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
