Recap: Nelson Island Islanders vs. Chaputnguak Shaman
In what's become a running theme this season, the Nelson Island Islanders gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They claimed a resounding 83-41 win over Chaputnguak on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-20.
Leading Nelson Island to victory were Zachary Angaiak and Brennan Lincoln. Angaiak scored 24 points, while Lincoln scored 24 points. Lincoln hasn't dropped below 17 points for eight straight games. Charles Maxie was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Several Shaman players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Felagai Laumea, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Matthew, who scored 13 points.
Nelson Island has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Chaputnguak, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nelson Island won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Non Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Nelson Island knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Non Varsity Opponent likes a good challenge. As for Chaputnguak, they and Aniak will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Aniak will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Chaputnguak surely won't give up without a fight.
