Basketball Game Preview: Luella Lions vs. Eagle's Landing Eagles

The Luella Lions will square off against the Eagle's Landing Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Luella comes in on five and Eagle's Landing on six.

Last Saturday, Luella made easy work of Riverdale and carried off a 74-51 win.

Jordan Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Exi, who posted ten points and five assists.

Luella was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Eagle's Landing ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Ola 78-76. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Mustangs are ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Luella's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.2 points. As for Eagle's Landing, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.

Luella was taken down by Eagle's Landing 73-39 in their previous matchup back in December of 2021. Can Luella avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
