Softball Recap: Mt. Mansfield Comes Up Short

Mt. Mansfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Essex Hornets, falling 25-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 on May 2nd.

Mt. Mansfield's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Essex, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Coming up, Mt. Mansfield will be playing in front of their home fans against South Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.2 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Essex, they will head out on the road to challenge Bellows Free Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobwhites' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
