Baseball Recap: Desert View's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Desert View dropped their record down to 15-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 8-5 to the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 7-4 to the Badgers when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jorge Zazueta was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joshua Valenzuela, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Tucson High Magnet School, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On Tucson High Magnet School's side, Juan Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hernandez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alan Krimpe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Castro, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert View will challenge Cienega at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they will square off against Cesar Chavez at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
