Softball Game Preview: Watertown Warriors vs. Torrington Raiders

The Watertown Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Torrington Raiders at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Watertown managed to slip by St. Paul Catholic the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors came up short against the Falcons last Monday, falling 18-6. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Torrington can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Crosby. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Pergola made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Rinaldi, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilah Boulli, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Torrington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Watertown now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Torrington, their record is now 5-6.

Everything went Watertown's way against Torrington in their previous matchup on April 14th, as Watertown made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
