Baseball Recap: Citronelle Comes Up Short

Citronelle had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it 11. They lost 10-4 to St. Luke's Episcopal. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against St. Luke's Episcopal this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-5 two weeks ago.

Caden Richardson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for St. Luke's Episcopal, the win got them back to even at 5-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

On St. Luke's Episcopal's side, Cooper Frampton was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Frampton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jathan Richardson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. Luke's Episcopal's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Quinn Yates, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Citronelle will host Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.9 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Luke's Episcopal, they will challenge Satsuma at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
