Basketball Recap: Wright Comes Up Short

Wright extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-10. They took a blow against the Burns Broncs, falling 64-22. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.

When it comes to explaining why Wright lost, don't look at Jocelyn Umiker. Despite the final result, she shot 40% from the field on her way to 12 points and six rebounds. That was a full 54.5% of the Panthers' points, marking the third time in a row Umiker has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dani Barnhurst, who had six points and three steals.

As for Burns, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Burns found their leader in freshman Jencie Franzen, who went 8-for-14 en route to 21 points along with six boards and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Franzen has scored all season. Brooklyn Kopetzky was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Wright wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-26 loss against Hot Springs County on the 10th. As for Burns, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Torrington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
