The Colbert Heights Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Colbert Heights has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Decatur Heritage Christian Academy will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Friday, Colbert Heights was beaten by Lauderdale County 41-7. While losing is never fun, Colbert Heights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Lauderdale County is ranked 58th).
Meanwhile, Decatur Heritage Christian Academy got themselves on the board against Gaylesville two weeks ago, but Gaylesville never followed suit. They blew past the Trojans, posting a 34-0 victory at home. Considering Decatur Heritage Christian Academy has won four contests by more than 21 points this season, two weeks ago's blowout was nothing new.
Decatur Heritage Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Savarius Evans, who rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Evans was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Thomas, who rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Decatur Heritage Christian Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Ian Wickwire and his two sacks.
Colbert Heights' defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.5 points per game. As for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 8-1 record this season.
Colbert Heights beat Decatur Heritage Christian Academy 20-13 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Colbert Heights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
