Preview: Mountain Ridge Miners vs. Northern Huskies
The Mountain Ridge Miners will head out on the road to take on the Northern Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mountain Ridge posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Keyser and snuck past 52-50. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mountain Ridge.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen McGeady, who scored 19 points. Ian Duncan was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northern put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Meyersdale 61-31 at home. Given Northern's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 211th in Maryland, while Meyersdale is ranked 703rd in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mountain Ridge's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-6. As for Northern, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Mountain Ridge strolled past Northern in their previous meeting on Monday by a score of 65-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Ridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
