Parkland dropped their record down to 8-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They lost 11-5 to the Wilson Bulldogs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Trojans, who until this match were averaging 2.4 runs allowed.
Ben Weninger and Aiden Henning stepped up to the plate in a big way. Weninger went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Henning went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Grant Damweber also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for Wilson, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.
On Wilson's side, Jack Gabel made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gabel has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Kaden Ballas looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Tim Lengle was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Herron, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Parkland will host Easton Area at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rovers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wilson, they will be playing at home against Central Dauphin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in the Bulldogs' favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Rams have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
