Softball Game Recap: Chino Valley Cougars vs. River Valley Dust Devils

Chino Valley extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-7. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the River Valley Dust Devils, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Dust Devils from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for River Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games.

For River Valley's part, Sophia Reyes was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Reyes has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tamarie Williams, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Peyton Beggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Chino Valley is taking a road trip to challenge ALA - West Foothills at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Guardians have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season. As for River Valley, they will be playing at home against Yuma Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
