Softball Recap: Patrick Henry Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Patrick Henry ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Glenvar Highlanders 8-7.

Arianna Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Sarah Hobson was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Carlee Coleman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Patrick Henry's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Glenvar, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Patrick Henry will take on Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.3 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Glenvar, they are taking a road trip to square off against Patrick County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 11.4 runs per game this season.
