The Evergreen Park Mustangs will challenge the Thornwood Thunderbirds at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Thornwood will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Evergreen Park extended their winning streak to five on Thursday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Bremen. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Rowan Smyth made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Smyth was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Yarim Garcia was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Brady Bruen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Evergreen Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bremen only posted a batting average of .059.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thornwood). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Thornton a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Thunderbirds with their most commanding win of the season.
Derrion Howard and Hashim Vincent made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Howard pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vincent pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Howard also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Thornwood is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. At bat, Howard went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Vincent scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Howard also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amira Hondras, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Pozo, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4.
Evergreen Park's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Thornwood, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Thornwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Evergreen Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. It's a different story for Thornwood, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Evergreen Park's hitters?
Everything went Evergreen Park's way against Thornwood in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Evergreen Park made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
