Softball Game Preview: Mission Vista vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

Mission Vista is 0-4 against La Costa Canyon since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. Mission Vista will host La Costa Canyon at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Mission Vista didn't have quite enough to beat Carlsbad and fell 3-2.

Rian Hickman put in work no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Longhorns.

Norah Coulsell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addy Brown, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malia Whitehouse, who got three hits from her three at bats.

La Costa Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rancho Buena Vista only posted a batting average of .160.

Mission Vista's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for La Costa Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5-1.

Mission Vista came up short against La Costa Canyon when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Mission Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
