Softball Game Preview: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. McKenzie Rebels

The Houston County Fighting Irish will challenge the McKenzie Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Houston County has now lost nine straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 11th.

Houston County came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of McEwen by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday.

Brilee Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on five hits.

Meanwhile, McKenzie had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Peabody 21-12 on Monday.

Houston County's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for McKenzie, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0.

Houston County couldn't quite finish off McKenzie in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 4-2. Can Houston County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
