Baseball Game Preview: Paul VI Panthers vs. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints

The Paul VI Panthers will head out to face off against the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Paul VI's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so St. Stephen's & St. Agnes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Paul VI is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Flint Hill just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 6-5. The loss was the Panthers' first of the season.

Paul VI got a good showing from Carter Perdue, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Thomas Jewett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Owen Peltier was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes didn't have quite enough to beat Maret on Saturday and fell 9-8.

Having lost for the first time this season, Paul VI fell to 3-1. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Paul VI took their victory against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paul VI since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
