Softball Recap: Fitchburg's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Fitchburg had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Algonquin Regional Titans on Friday as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Blue Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Ina Soini made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Soini was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Shae-Lyn Smith and Alana Beauchemin did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Beauchemin went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April. Anna Soini was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Fitchburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fitchburg's win bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Algonquin Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Fitchburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Algonquin Regional, they will take on Westborough at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
