The team relied heavily on Sam Guenther, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Christopher hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Gilroy came into Thursday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Del Mar with a sharp 13-4 victory on Thursday. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Gilroy let Abram Valdez and Brennan Neander run wild. Valdez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI, while Neander went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Neander has become a key player for Gilroy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Nelson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Christopher and bumps their season record up to 11-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Gilroy, their record is now 7-13.
Everything went Christopher's way against Gilroy in their previous meeting on April 8th, as Christopher made off with an 18-2 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
