Baseball Recap: Thoreau Comes Up Short

Thoreau had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-14 to make it six. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hot Springs Tigers. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in March of 2017.

As for Hot Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Hot Springs' part, the team relied heavily on Billy Baca, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Baca has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Sandoval, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Thoreau does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hot Springs, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Wingate at 3:00 p.m. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.11 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
