Baseball Recap: Denver East's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Denver East had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-11 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Poudre Impalas a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Angels have posted since March 30, 2024.

Kaeden Zirlin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Denver East is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Denver East saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan L'Herault, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Jon Moran also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Denver East hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

As for Poudre, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 13, 2024.

On Poudre's side, they got a good showing from Jake Fontana, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Fontana a new career-low.

Coming up, Denver East will square off against Rangeview at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Angels are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Poudre, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Impalas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wizards have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season.
