Baseball Recap: Acalanes' Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Acalanes extended their postseason success on Wednesday against Cardinal Newman. They had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Dons as they're now sitting on three straight.

Branson Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ando Butner was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was David Gonzales, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Acalanes' victory bumped their record up to 16-10-1. As for Cardinal Newman, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 18-11 record.

Coming up, Acalanes will be playing at home against Rancho Cotate at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Dons surely won't give up without a fight. Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
