Softball Recap: Ayer Shirley Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Ayer Shirley and West Boylston had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Panthers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.

Devon Perwak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ayer Shirley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiley Hoeske, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Ayer Shirley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-1. As for West Boylston, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Ayer Shirley is taking a road trip to square off against Bromfield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Boylston, they will venture away from home to face off against Tahanto Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games the Stags have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
