Softball Recap: Conant Takes a Loss

Conant extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-10. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Prospect Mountain Apaches. That's two games in a row now that the Orioles have lost by exactly three runs.

As for Prospect Mountain, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

For Prospect Mountain's part, Sophia Bowman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Bowman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kylee Guptill was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Glidden, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Conant is taking a road trip to face off against Bishop Brady at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Orioles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Giants have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Prospect Mountain, they will welcome Newfound Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
