Basketball Recap: Galloway Scots vs. King's Ridge Christian Tigers

After flying high against the Atlanta International Eagles last Tuesday, the Galloway Scots came back down to earth. Galloway fell to the Tigers 62-58. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Galloway in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

Several Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Vaughn Murphy, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Murphy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reggie Johnson, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.

Even though they lost, Galloway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King's Ridge Christian only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Jaydon Cole continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for King's Ridge Christian, scoring 24 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Cole hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Zeplin Kidd, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.

Galloway has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for King's Ridge Christian, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Galloway will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Furtah Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 21 matches -- so hopefully the Scots like a good challenge. As for King's Ridge Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. Monsignor Donovan Catholic is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 65.9 points per game this season.
