Lordsburg has gone 6-1 against Mescalero Apache recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mavericks will head out on the road to challenge the Chiefs at 3:00 p.m. Lordsburg has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lordsburg's offense. They lost 13-0 to Mesilla Valley Christian School on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the SonBlazers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Mescalero Apache made sure to put some runs up on the board against Capitan on Tuesday. The Chiefs blew past the Tigers 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Mescalero Apache let Ferron BigHunter and Ricardo Yuzos run wild. BigHunter got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two triples, and three runs, while Yuzos went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Yuzos a new career-high. Lakai Whitewater was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mescalero Apache was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Lordsburg's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Mescalero Apache, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-13.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lordsburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Mescalero Apache struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lordsburg beat Mescalero Apache 9-6 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
