Softball Game Preview: Westfield Bulldogs vs. Patriot Pioneers

The Westfield Bulldogs will challenge the Patriot Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Westfield took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against South Lakes, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Seahawks 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since March 21st.

Jaelynn Vinaya and Rylee Schmid did most of the damage at the plate: Vinaya went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Schmid went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Vinaya a new career-high.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Patriot). They blew past Osbourn 21-5 on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Pioneers as they're now sitting on three straight.

The team relied heavily on Aubrey Shelton, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Avery Munson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Patriot always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Westfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Patriot, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Westfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Patriot struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs.
