Football Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They took a blow against the Memorial Warriors, falling 35-6. The Knights lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 20-17 score last time.

Jack O'Connor threw for 49 yards on four of 17 attempts. Tristan Wade was his top target, picking up 34 receiving yards. On the ground, Jeremy Thompson rushed for 66 yards.

As for Memorial, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Among those leading the charge was Benjamin Wilson, who threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. 88 of Wilson's passing yards were hauled in by Landon Diehl, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Independence has already played their next contest, a 63-35 defeat against Liberty on the 26th. As for Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-17 loss against Emerson on the 26th.
