Football Recap: Anderson-Shiro Takes a Loss

Anderson-Shiro had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-3 to make it four. They took a blow against the Newton Eagles, falling 62-7. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 745th, while the Eagles are ranked 207th).

As for Newton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Kendray Porter was his usual excellent self, picking up 144 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 104 yards and two scores on only six carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 104 rushing yards. Deldrick Samuel was another key rusher, gaining 115 total yards and two touchdowns.

Coincidentally, Anderson-Shiro and Newton will both be playing New Waverly the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Fighting Owls will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
