Softball Recap: York's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

After low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, York brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They never let the Lafayette Rams get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Bri Petrolia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sarah Witt was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Leah Hunter was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

York always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

York now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Lafayette, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the defeat, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, York will take on Western Branch at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Lafayette, they will challenge Poquoson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
