Bogue Chitto extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-2. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lawrence County Cougars. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.
Jonna Claire Roberts was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.
In other batting news, Abigail Holder and Raylee Chisolm stepped up to the plate in a big way. Holder went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Chisolm went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailyn McClendon, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
As for Lawrence County, the victory got them back to even at 1-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Bogue Chitto since March 6, 2018.
Like Bogue Chitto, Lawrence County also got a great game from a two-way player: Marleigh Grace Russell. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Russell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Ratcliff, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025. Lyric Pittman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Bogue Chitto didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-7 defeat against Forrest County Agricultural on the 14th. As for Lawrence County, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-2 draw against Enterprise on the 14th.
