Softball Recap: Academy of the Holy Names Starts off Right with Win over Land O' Lakes

Academy of the Holy Names took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Land O' Lakes Gators. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Taylor Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Academy of the Holy Names' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elise McQuiston, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Ava LaBarbera was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Land O' Lakes' loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Academy of the Holy Names will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Shorecrest Prep at 6:00 p.m. As for Land O' Lakes, they will challenge Wiregrass Ranch at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
