Softball Recap: Mount St. Dominic Academy Comes Up Short

Mount St. Dominic Academy dropped their record down to 5-2 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Colts Neck Cougars by a score of 6-5. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Colts Neck, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 3, 2024.

For Colts Neck's part, Angela Sasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Sasso.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jillian Heyser, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Bryce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Mount St. Dominic Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Steinert at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Colts Neck, they will head out to square off against St. John-Vianney at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.7, the Lancers 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
