Baseball Recap: Westlake Thunder vs. American Fork Cavemen
Westlake had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-18 to make it six. They came up short against the American Fork Cavemen, falling 11-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunder of the 22-9 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for American Fork, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Considering they have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For American Fork's part, they got a great performance from Tege Kelley as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Kelley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Max Miller was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bode Gaggero, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
While Westlake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
