Basketball Game Preview: Johnson Governors vs. DeLaSalle Islanders

The Johnson Governors will take on the DeLaSalle Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Johnson comes in on seven and DeLaSalle on three.

Johnson is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since February 8, 2024 on Saturday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 53-52 victory over Mahtomedi.

Meanwhile, DeLaSalle earned an 85-72 win over St. Anthony Village on Saturday. Given the Islanders' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Huskies are ranked 174th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

DeLaSalle's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 86.3 points over those games. As for Johnson, their win bumped their record up to 19-6.

Johnson lost to DeLaSalle on the road by a decisive 82-64 margin when the teams last played back in March of 2015. Can Johnson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
