Softball Recap: Oberlin Comes Up Short

Oberlin had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it five. They lost 18-0 to the Black River Pirates. The Phoenix were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

As for Black River, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Black River's part, Rebekah Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Remi Dieter was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March. Mallory Eckert was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Oberlin is taking a road trip to face off against Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Black River, they will take on Waynedale at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Golden Bears will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
