St. Bonaventure makes it into the rankings - hardly an easy choice.

We're putting a team in the rankings that lost to the team we are booting out.

Yeah, it looks strange. But new No. 24 St. Bonaventure has a win over No. 25 Redlands East Valley and REV beat former No. 25 Chaminade.

Get it? Yeah, tough.



The good news is that St. Bonny will make the decision easy when it takes on undefeated Camarillo on Friday. Either the Seraphs will solidify their spot or maybe the Scorpions will just move on in.

Not much happened last week. With league play starting in a lot of places, expect to see some great matchups between ranked teams.

Classification: Southern Section, Big VIII League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 1 state, 3 national, 2 Xcellent 25

Another week, another smashing. The Huskies beat Valencia 59-7 and Anthony Catalano only needed six completions to register 210 passing yards and four touchdowns. King (Riverside) will host Centennial in the Big VIII opener for both teams on Friday.

2. (2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 5-0
Classification: Southern Section, Trinity League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 3 state, 12 national, 5 Xcellent 25

The Braves had the week off. They head to Santa Margarita to begin Trinity League play on Friday.



3. (3) Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 5-0
Classification: Southern Section, Trinity League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 2 state, 10 national, 22 Xcellent 25

The Monarchs also had the week off, and they head to Orange Lutheran for the league opener on Friday.

4. (4) Long Beach Poly, 4-1 (2-0 Moore)
Classification: Southern Section, Moore League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 5 state, 31 national

The Jackrabbits laid it on against Cabrillo (Long Beach), winning 73-7. They're heading to Compton on Friday in what should be another huge victory.

5. (5) Bishop Amat (La Puente), 5-1 (2-0 Mission)
Classification: Southern Section, Mission League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 6 state, 35 national

The Lancers lead the Mission League thanks to a 49-7 blitzing of Crespi. Torreahno Sweet ran 14 times for 209 yards and five scores. Their league slate is exponentially tougher the rest of the way, and that stretch starts Friday at Serra.



6. (6) Mission Viejo, 6-0
Classification: Southern Section, South Coast League, West Valley Division
Rankings: 7 state, 36 national

The Diablos had a bye and host Dana Hills (Dana Point) Friday in their South Coast League opener.

7. (7) Serra (Gardena), 5-1 (2-0 Mission)
Classification: Southern Section, Mission League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 9 state, 57 national

The Cavaliers matched Bishop Amat by moving to 2-0 in the Mission League. They downed Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 35-20 after entering the fourth quarter leading by just one point. Khalil Tate threw for two scores and ran for three more. They host Amat on Friday in a huge game.

8. (8) Alemany (Mission Hills), 5-0 (1-0 Mission)
Classification: Southern Section, Mission League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 13 state, 79 national

The Warriors took the week off and head to Chaminade on Friday.



9. (9) Orange Lutheran, 3-2
Classification: Southern Section, Trinity League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 21 state, 152 national

The Lancers had a well-deserved bye and will host Mater Dei on Friday.

10. (10) Narbonne (Harbor City), 3-2
Classification: Los Angeles City Section, Marine League, Division I
Rankings: 23 state, 158 national

The Gauchos had to forge a comeback to down Los Alamitos, 35-28, including a late onside kick recovery. Devaughn Cooper hauled in five passes for 114 yards and a score. Narbonne opens Marine League play Friday vs. George Washington Prep (Los Angeles).

11. (13) Oaks Christian (Westlake Village), 6-0
Classification: Southern Section, Marmonte League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 26 state, 177 national

The Lions posted a 76-8 victory over University (Los Angeles), and 69 of those points came before halftime. Matt Corral was 6-for-6 with 166 yards and three scores. They will host Thousand Oaks on Friday.



12. (11) Vista Murrieta (Murrieta), 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Southwestern League, West Valley Division
Rankings: 27 state, 179 national

The Broncos edged a very good St. Augustine (San Diego) team, 36-34. Zack Arceyut ran for 116 yards and the defense grabbed a pair of interceptions. They start league play Friday at Great Oak.

13. (12) JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), 5-0
Classification: Southern Section, Trinity League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 15 state, 104 national

The Lions took the week off and will face Servite on Friday at Cerritos College.

14. (14) Norco, 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Big VIII League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 25 state, 172 national

The Cougars won 50-34 over Serrano (Phelan) and Travis Dye was amazing again with 13 runs for 240 yards and three scores. They host Roosevelt (Eastvale) on Friday.



15. (15) Westlake (Westlake Village), 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Marmonte League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 35 state, 318 national

The Warriors had a bye. They go to Paraclete (Lancaster) on Friday.

16. (16) Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita), 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Trinity League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 24 state, 160 national

The Eagles had a bye and will host St. John Bosco on Friday.

17. (17) Rancho Cucamonga, 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Baseline League, West Valley Division
Rankings: 32 state, 301 national

The Cougars had a bye last week. They start Baseline League play at Damien (La Verne) on Friday.



18. (18) Mission Hills (San Marcos), 5-0
Classification: San Diego Section, Avocado East League, Division I (can change)
Rankings: 40 state, 407 national

Mission Hills took the week off, and will host a big game against Oceanside on Friday.

19. (19) Helix (La Mesa), 3-1
Classification: San Diego Section, Grossmont Hills League, Division I (can change)
Rankings: 12 state, 78 national

The Highlanders won 38-7 over Bonita Vista behind three touchdown passes from Michael Austin. They kick off league play on Friday at Steele Canyon (Spring Valley).

20. (20) Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita), 5-1
Classification: Southern Section, South Coast League, West Valley Division
Rankings: 18 state, 136 national

The Titans earned a 31-22 victory over San Clemente, posting a solid victory over a good program for the second-straight week. They will begin league play on Friday with a home game against El Toro (Lake Forest).



21. (21) San Juan Hills (San Juan Capistrano), 6-0
Classification: Southern Section, South Coast League, West Valley Division
Rankings: 17 state, 129 national

The Stallions stayed perfect with a 61-24 triumph over Beckman (Irvine), with Jacob Huff posting a stellar stat line with 12 catches for 247 yards and three scores. They will take this week off before heading to El Toro.

22. (23) Loyola (Los Angeles), 5-1 (1-1 Mission)
Classification: Southern Section, Mission League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 16 state, 118 national

The Cubs evened up their league record with a 31-13 victory over Chaminade. They held the Eagles to only 88 passing yards on defense. They'll look to keep the momentum Friday at Crespi.

23. (22) La Habra, 4-1
Classification: Southern Section, Freeway League, Southwest Division
Rankings: 14 state, 91 national

The Highlanders took the week off. They go to Sonora (La Habra) on Friday.



24. (NR) St. Bonaventure (Ventura), 5-1
Classification: Southern Section, Marmonte League, Pac-5 Division
Rankings: 41 state, 422 national

The Seraphs make their entrance after a very good start, and last week's 40-20 win over Garces (Bakersfield). What makes this tough is St. Bonny is replacing Chaminade, the only team to beat St. Bonny. But, St. Bonaventure has a win over Redlands East Valley, a team that beat Chaminade. Yes, it's a little messy. The Seraphs have a very tough matchup with Camarillo on Friday.

25. (24) Redlands East Valley, 4-1 (2-0 Citrus Belt)
Classification: Southern Section, Citrus Belt League, Inland Division
Rankings: 19 state, 141 national

The Wildcats won the Smudge Pot with a 52-14 victory over Redlands. Sophomore Gabriel Clark caught a pair of touchdown passes as part of a 93-yard day. They host A.B. Miller (Fontana) on Friday.
