Football Game Preview: Herndon Hornets vs. Wakefield Warriors

Herndon has gone a perfect 3-0 against Wakefield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Hornets will welcome the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Neither Herndon nor Wakefield posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Herndon would be wise to avoid a repeat of their last game when they take on Wakefield seeing as the team posted more yard in penalties than they did on offense (with predictable results). The Hornets were dealt a 42-7 defeat at the hands of Yorktown on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 21-7 bruising from George C. Marshall.

Herndon will need to focus on slowing down Andrew Mason, one of several Wakefield players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 163 receiving yards and one touchdown. Mason really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 95 yards. Xavier Winkelmann was another key player, picking up 151 receiving yards.

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Herndon, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything went Herndon's way against Wakefield in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as Herndon made off with a 21-0 victory. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
