Baseball Recap: Canyon Springs Takes a Loss

Canyon Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-5 last Tuesday.

Kenny Castro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Canyon Springs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Campana, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple. That triple marked the first that Campana hit this season.

Canyon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.

Canyon Springs will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Moapa Valley at 3:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Desert Pines on the 11th.
