Baseball Recap: Four Straight Road Victories for Sotomayor

Sotomayor won the last time they faced Holmes and things went their way on Friday too. Sotomayor put the hurt on Holmes with a sharp 13-3 win. That's two games straight that the WILDCATS have won by exactly ten runs.

Evan Fine and Isaac Staten did most of the damage at the plate: Fine scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Staten scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Fine a new career-high. Kolaiah Staten also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Sotomayor pushed their record up to 8-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.25 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.44 in the others. As for Holmes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Sotomayor and Holmes could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Sotomayor will take on Central Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday down 294 places (330 vs. 36). Meanwhile, Holmes (ranked 1072nd) will meet Harlan (ranked 482nd) at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
