Softball Game Preview: Manville Mustangs vs. South Hunterdon Eagles

Manville hasn't had much luck against South Hunterdon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will welcome the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Manville has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Manville lost 12-2 to Franklin on Friday.

Meanwhile, South Hunterdon waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Elsie Scheetz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Anika Balog was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hailey Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

South Hunterdon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.

South Hunterdon's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Manville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
