Basketball Recap: LaBrae Vikings vs. Rootstown Rovers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact LaBrae can now relate to. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rootstown Rovers. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Rovers are ranked 53rd).
Leading Rootstown to victory were Nadia Lough and Elliot Smallfield. Lough dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, while Smallfield went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points and eight steals. That's the most points Lough has posted since back in February of 2024. Colbie Curall was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine boards and four steals.
LaBrae's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Rootstown, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-1.
LaBrae does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rootstown, they will challenge Canton Central Catholic at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rootstown knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Canton Central Catholic likes a good challenge.
